Mie is also home to Japan’s most important Shinto shrine, Ise Jingu, which is considered the ‘soul of Japan’. Traditional handicrafts like pottery are produced in Mie, and many of Japan’s famous pearls come from the Mikimoto Pearl Island. The prefecture has a healthy agricultural industry, green tea, fruits, and some of the best wagyu beef are produced here.
