2023 Reopening Borders of Japan for Tourists

Finally, there has been some good news about the state of the Japanese border closure for almost all tourists. The ban on tourists due to the outbreak of COVID-19 has been in effect since April 2020, and for a long time, there has been no clear timeline on when the borders of Japan would be reopening again for tourism. But now this has finally changed. We can help you with your mandatory ERFS registration so you can get a tourist visa to Japan!

Current Situation Updates Border Reopening Japan

Since June 10th, the borders have been carefully opened up for more tourists who come to Japan on group or individual package tours. We can help you get your ERFS registration that is currently necessary to be eligible to receive a travel visa to Japan. Please contact us if you would like to come to Japan between June and September 2022 and we will let you know what is possible. This move is likely paving the way for the borders to fully re-open later this year, potentially by October 2022, for all tourists. Once more information has been confirmed, we will update this page.

Our private package tours are eligible for tourist visa and are open for bookings. Besides our private package tours, we can also help you with a completely customized individual package tour that is eligible for a tourist visa. Please contact us if you’d like us to make an individual proposal for you.

We are currently also preparing group package tours that adhere to the government’s standards for July, August, and September 2022. We will link to these tours as soon as they are live and ready to be booked!

Border Reopening Rules

While nothing is set in stone and reopening will partly depend on the future situation of the pandemic like available medicines, vaccinations, and infection trends, the fact that reopening the Japanese borders to inbound tourism is again on the table as a point of discussion is very hopeful.

First, it was the long-term visa holders who were left in limbo for a prolonged period of time not being able to reenter Japan after leaving the country for a vacation or family visit who were able to return when complying with certain measures. Then the news came that the 2020 Olympics would be held regardless of the pandemic situation at that moment.
